What is GRE ?

  • The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a standardized test taken by students who are applying to postgraduate courses in the US and in some other parts of the world.
  • The GRE is produced by the Educational Testing Service, a US-based non-profit organization.

What is the format of GRE?

There are three test sections — Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing.
  • Verbal reasoning — it measures your ability to analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information acquired from it.
  • Quantitative reasoning — It measures your problem-solving ability using basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
  • Analytical writing — It measures your critical thinking and analytical writing skills, specifically your ability to articulate and support complex ideas clearly and effectively. There are two verbal and two Math sections on GRE® revised General Test.
  • As per the GRE test pattern 2016, the total duration of the computer-based general test is 3 hours 45 minutes.
