What is SBI PO exam?

  • The State Bank of India (SBI), one of the biggest names in this sector, has initiated the process for recruiting eligible candidates for the post of Probationary Officer (PO) for its branches across the country. The exam is scheduled for June/July.

What is the eligibility of the exam?

As on 1 April 2016:
  • The age of the candidates must be between 21 years to 30 years.
  • Relaxation: OBC Candidates – 03 years.
  • SC/ST Candidates, Ex-servicemen– 05 years.
  • Persons With Disabilities (PWD):
  • PWD (SC/ST)-15; PWD (OBC)- 13 Years, PWD (Gen)- 10 Years
  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or possessing any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

What is the format of the exam?

There are three phases in this exam:
Phase 1: Preliminary Examination: It contains 100 MCQ questions for 100 marks. The duration of the examination is 60 minutes. It consists of:
  • English Language: 30 questions and 30 marks
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 35 questions and 35 marks
  • Reasoning Ability: 35 questions and 35 marks
Phase 2: Main Examination:
  • It has two stages i.e. Objective test and Descriptive test. Both will be online.
  • Objective test: The objective test will be for 3-hour duration consisting of 4 sections of totals 200 marks, and will have separate timing for every section.
  • Structure of the test:
  • 1. Reasoning and Computer Aptitude: 45 questions, 60 marks, 60 minutes
  • 2. Data Analysis and Interpretation: 35 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
  • 3. General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness: 40 questions, 40 marks, 35 minutes
  • 4. English Language: 35 questions, 40 marks, 40 minutes
  • Descriptive test: The Descriptive Test will be of 30 minutes duration comprising of 50 marks and will be in English Language, consisting of letter writing and essay.

Phase 3: Group Discussion and Interview: GD will carry 20 marks and Interview will carry 30 marks.


What is the exam date?

SBI PO Prelims exam will be conducted from 2 to 10 July 2016. Qualified candidates in this exam have to appear for the SBI PO Main exam, which is scheduled on 31 July 2016.
